What is the difference between “State Criminal Charges” and “Federal Criminal Charges?”

The type of charge one receives is based upon what kind of laws they are accused of breaking. Government agencies investigate and prosecute individuals who have broken federal laws. State institutions inspect and litigate cases involving the disregard of state laws. Most criminal charges are categorized as State charges. These include drug offenses, DUI and domestic violence. Punishments for breaking state law are often less severe than those given for breaking federal law.

State Criminal Defense Cases

We defend clients facing state crimes, including DUI, drug crimes involving possession or some prescription medication fraud, small-scale drug crimes, and more. We take an aggressive stance to every case, and work toward a dismissal or lessening the punishments for the crimes. While state crimes do not carry punishments as serious as federal crimes, the consequences are still significant. We will do everything possible to mitigate the negative impact of a state crime on your future.

Federal Criminal Defense

Federally prosecuted crimes are often different from state crimes. If you face a federal criminal charge, your choice in defense counsel is critical.

  • White-collar crimes, including federal fraud, embezzlement, money laundering and more. This includes representation at the point of investigations, prior to criminal charges.

  • Sex crimes, including Internet offenses.

  • Serious drug cases, including drug trafficking and drug crimes paired with weapons offenses.

We maintain a successful track record advocating for our clients. Our adversaries respect the legal approaches we take, and our clients appreciate the level of professionalism and individualized attention we provide.
