Meet Gil Gatch

Gil is a Summerville native who follows his passions for advocacy and public service. Gil Gatch earned his Juris Doctor at Georgetown Law in Washington D.C. and his undergraduate degree from Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, N.C. Before entering law school Gil was a pastor in Charlotte for seven years.

While attaining his law degree, Gil worked as a fellow at the Georgetown Center for the Constitution and for the Heritage Foundation researching public policy. After graduation, Gil returned to his home here in the low-country, clerking for The Honorable Diane S. Goodstein in South Carolina’s First Judicial Circuit.

After incumbent Representative Con Chellis declined to seek re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2020, Gil Gatch declared his candidacy to succeed him. Gil defeated Evan Guthrie in the Republican primary and Democratic nominee Patricia Cannon in the November general election. Today, Gil holds S.C. House Seat 94, representing Dorchester and Charleston counties.

He and his wife Heather currently live in Summerville’s charming Historic District with their two German Shepherds, Adler and Sherlock. Gil and Heather are members of Gil’s childhood church, Summerville Baptist Church.
